SensGard FAQ — Clear Answers. Proven Technology.

What do NRR numbers mean, and why does SensGard offer NRR 26 and NRR 31?

The Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) is the industry standard for comparing how well hearing protection reduces sound. Because decibels use a logarithmic scale, every 10 dB represents roughly double the sound‑reducing power.

  • NRR 26 → Strong protection for everyday loud environments

  • NRR 31 → Maximum protection for extreme noise

How do I know which NRR rating I need?

Match the NRR to your environment:

NRR 26 — Everyday High Noise

Ideal for:

  • Lawn equipment

  • Power tools

  • Concerts

  • Busy or echo‑prone spaces

NRR 31 — Extreme Noise

Best for:

  • Chainsaws & heavy machinery

  • Firearms

  • Industrial equipment

  • High‑impact construction

If you want the highest level of defense — especially if you already experience hearing loss — NRR 31 is the better choice.

Is SensGard an earplug or an earmuff?

Neither — SensGard is a third category - Acoustic Chamber Hearing Protection.

Traditional options have limitations:

  • Earplugs must be inserted deeply and correctly to work, which many users struggle with.

  • Earmuffs rely on a tight seal that can be broken by eye glass frames, or hair.

SensGard works differently. Our patented acoustic chambers seal at the entrance of the ear canal and redirect and dissipate sound energy before it reaches the ear. This design reduces harmful noise while still allowing safe‑level sound to pass through — giving you protection without isolation.
